IP Reservation and DHCP at the Router is IMPERATIVE!
If you have regular issues with devices disconnecting and dropping off registration - the most likely issue is improper network set-up. It is important that ALL devices on your network are "RESERVED IN YOUR DHCP DEVICE" - not set STATIC at each device.
Main Phone System IP
We recommend that the main PBX Box be reserved high up in the DHCP range, and reserved AT THE ROUTER / DHCP controller. This allows for ALL hidden features to work correctly and avoids major issues with VoIP service.
Set the IP of the Main PBX Box to an IP, such as: 192.168.1.254 --> Highest IP in the DHCP range so as not to conflict or be taken over by static IP devices, if set. Each network and / or router may be different, this is as example only.
Other Important settings to check:
- Disable: SIP / ALG
- Disable: UPnP **Security Related Issue**
- If using our VoIP Telephone Line Service - refer to your set-up sheet for PORT FORWARDING RULES.
- Make sure your network has DHCP Option 66 turned on (if feature is present).
Reserve all Phone Device IPs as well
If you can, keep phone device IPs in a set range when reserving. We ourselves reserve the IPs for phones - DOWN from the IP of the main phone system...
Ex: Main System IP: 192.168.1.254, phones reserved from: 192.168.1.253 downward, x.252, x.251, etc.
If you can't reserve down from there, another option is to reserve the IPs to MATCH the Extension number, if possible. IE: Ext. 101 - reserve to IP: 192.168.1.101.
No matter how you or your IT party organizes IP address Reservations - it's always best to 'keep everything organized' should further diagnosis be required. Proper network practice these days is to reserve IP's - IN THE ROUTER or DHCP DESIGNATION DEVICE. NOT as "STATIC" at the device.
Important Note: With-in the phone system PBX logs, we can see when IP addresses have not been properly set-up for end-points. Should network issues occur and we diagnose it as such, we will point you directly to this FAQ Article to discuss with your IT party. As per our support contract Terms & Conditions (ToS), additional diagnostics time charges will be billed to your account for network diagnostics.
Notice - FAQ addition: Some older routers are a cause of SIP and other network problems. First UPDATE your router's firmware. Or, consider Upgrading the network controller to a newer model. See here for details
